  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, chopped
  • 330ml (1 bottle) beer (lager or ale)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (plus more for brushing)
  • Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a standard loaf pan or line with baking paper.

    Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

    Add the beer and bacon:
Pour in the beer and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped cooked bacon. The batter will be thick and sticky.

    Transfer to loaf pan:
Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Drizzle melted butter over the top.

    Bake the bread:
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.

    Cool and serve:
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and serve warm — perfect with soup, eggs, or on its own!
