  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 slices white bread (soaked in milk)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp chutney (like Mrs Ball’s)
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • Salt & pepper
  • Bay leaves
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1. Preheat oven:
    Preheat your oven to 180°C.

    2. Prepare the base:
Sauté the chopped onion in a little oil until soft and translucent. Add the minced beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.

    3. Add the spices and bread:
Stir in the curry powder, turmeric, chutney, and vinegar. Add the soaked bread (squeeze out any excess milk first), and season with salt and pepper. Mix everything together well.

    4. Transfer to a baking dish:
Spoon the beef mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

    5. Make the custard topping:
In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs and milk. Pour this mixture over the beef in the baking dish. Place the bay leaves on top.

    6. Bake:
Place the dish in the oven and bake for 30–40 minutes, or until the custard is set and golden on top.
