  • 500g beef steak (sirloin or flank), thinly sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • ½ cup beef stock or water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked white or jasmine rice
  • Sesame seeds and sliced spring onions (for garnish)

Prepare the sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, brown sugar, beef stock, sesame oil, and black pepper. Set aside.

Blanch the broccoli:
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add broccoli florets and cook for 2–3 minutes until just tender. Drain and set aside.

Stir-fry the beef:
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large pan or wok over high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Cook aromatics and combine:
Add another tablespoon of oil to the same pan. Sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant. Return the beef and add the broccoli. Pour in the sauce and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until everything is coated and the sauce thickens.

Serve hot:
Spoon the beef and broccoli over hot cooked rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions.
